The Sandwich Generation with Jo Clark

For many in midlife there is a period of time where you’re responsible for the care of both your ageing parents and your own children - regularly referred to as the sandwich generation. It often means we are caught between two worlds. On the one hand trying to be there for ageing parents who are adjusting to physical, mental, financial changes and on the other also being responsible for their own children at the same time. It can mean emotions of guilt, grief, anger and resentment can come alongside as we are stretched too thin. Listen to this solo episode as I share five tips to navigate this difficult time including:

  • Prioritising your own self-care

  • Communicating openly and honestly

  • Seeking support

  • Finding joy in the journey

  • Preparing for the future

Understanding how we are going to get from where we are to where we want to be in this second half of life is a fundamental factor in making our next half of life sustainable, enjoyable and supported. Sharing what you are going through with others helps to normalise this common experience, and it's really important that we start talking and sharing openly. I would love to hear from you, please feel free to send me an email jo@joclarkcoaching.com if this episode resonated with you.
