Non-diet Nutrition with Jo Clark and Megan Martin
Today’s guest, Megan Martin, is a university qualified nutritionist who is passionate about supporting women during the menopausal transition by reframing self care so that they can future proof their health and approach a non-diet approach to their health and wellness. She is a wealth of knowledge and understands the importance of supporting our bodies more mindfully during these transition years. Listen as Megan and I expand on our thoughts and talk about:
The difference between dietitians and nutritionists, keeping it simple and how nutrition also includes lifestyle choices and a wholesome well rounded approach.
The physiological impact of diet culture and social influences within our past, such as counting calories, fad diets and the bombardment of food messages we were exposed to.
Food choices in regard to specific nutrients, perimenopause and menopause. Looking at the Mediterranean diet for this stage of life and how that can minimise inflammatory issues and decrease other risks such as osteopenia.
How the body absorbs certain nutrients such as calcium, iron and vitamin D and importance of estrogen levels in midlife.
Megan’s passion and enthusiasm for nutrition shines throughout this conversation and I hope it gets you thinking about differences you can make through putting things in place and becoming an advocate for your own health and well-being.
