Highlighting Perimenopause. Puberty in Reverse with Jo Clark

The Redefining Midlife Podcast is reaching a big milestone today, with 50 episodes to celebrate. Given 90% of podcasts don’t even get past three episodes and a further 90% who do get past three, don’t make it past 20 I think that is something to be really proud of. Today I’m featuring the most downloaded episode to date. It was a short solo episode all the way back at episode 14 called Perimenopause, Puberty in Reverse.

If you’re like me and the majority of women, you probably thought that menopause just happened. Some hot flushes when in your fifties, your period stops, and you ticked off a list and carried on. It’s way more than that. It is not only important for women, but also important for anyone who lives with, works with, or is in a relationship with a person who has menstrual cycles. Basically, everyone. Tune in as I revisit this episode and talk about:

  • Puberty in reverse and how it is the winding down, rather than the ramping up.

  • How perimenopause starts happening without you even realising and how it can be entirely different, or with some similarities to other women around you.

  • How hormones play a part. Starting with lower progesterone, paired with erratic oestrogen, with changes to insulin metabolism. Meaning our hormones are in a constant state of flux.

  • How the years of perimenopause are a critical window for your health and wellness and what we can do to manage health problems from turning into larger and more permanent health problems in the future.

I look forward to bringing you many more episodes just like this one, and recapping a few more special ones for you to listen to in the coming weeks.
